Description:

Join Alternative Sentencing & Reentry Solutions (ASRS) for a two-part, interactive workshop series designed for attorneys, legal professionals, and justice advocates.

In Session 1, we’ll be joined by a former prosecutor to explore how trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) impact youth behavior and justice involvement. You’ll learn how a trauma-informed lens can reshape defense strategies, challenge harmful narratives, and lead to more just outcomes.

In Session 2, hear directly from a panel of individuals with lived experience who were sentenced as youth to juvinile life without parole (JLWOP). Panelists will share their stories of resilience, healing, and transformation. The session will also include hands-on case study practice in small groups—applying trauma-informed and habilitation-based approaches to defense and reentry planning. More information on panelists will be provided via email closer to the date of the event.

Why Attend?

  • Understand how trauma shapes youth behavior and legal outcomes
  • Learn how to integrate mitigation and reentry supports into defense
  • Hear firsthand how early intervention and community-centered support make a difference
  • Practice applying trauma-informed defense strategies in real-life scenarios

Who Should Attend? This training is ideal for criminal defense attorneys, public defenders, mitigation specialists, law students, social workers, and others working in or alongside the legal system.
